  • Sleep disturbances either insomnia or hypersomnia

  • Impaired concentration or decision-making ability

  • Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide

When such symptoms persist for more than two weeks and impair daily functioning, the condition meets the criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (DSM-5).
